You can’t turn down a last-minute opportunity to pitch to Vodafone, but startup agency &FRIENDS were stretched. They needed a creative lead to turn it around fast.

Vodafone set up the DreamLab app to ‘crowdsource’ the spare computing power of their customers’ phones for cancer research. Then the pandemic hit and they re-programmed their smartphone supercomputer to track Covid-19 variants. Understandably, they wanted to share its success with their customers and beyond.
At the same time, disruptor production agency &FRIENDS had started picking up some content contracts with Vodafone. The DreamLab brief was a great opportunity to cement the relationship, but other agencies were in the mix and their ECD was spread too thin.
The agency needed a quick-thinking creative director with a talent network who could win the pitch and build a team to produce the work.
...to produce a winning pitch in three days, I quickly nurtured a creative partnership with their design team and developed the pitch concept, content treatment and nation-wide campaign approach to show the brief’s bigger potential.
...to deliver the best possible work for a tight budget. The budget restrictions meant a proper film shoot was out of the question. I wrote the scripts to leverage self-shot content from the scientists and Vodafone customers who were making DreamLab a reality. Then I brought in the talented animator and editor David Keefe to add a touch of sparkle to the low-fi footage.

We pitched and delivered the work in under a month – just in time for DreamLab to celebrate passing the 1 million computation mark.
The success of the project secured &FRIENDS a year-long contract to produce social media content across Vodafone’s other sub brands.
